This is our third ECW game and each one gets bigger and better.  It started as a Birthday bash our Tom organised for me.  We chose as a guide the battle of Montgomery and laid the game over 3 tables.  The town of Welshpool, the Castle and town of Montgomery and the battlefield between the river Camlad and the Severn.  The table was 24' x6' which about the longest we can do in the club!  The Royalists lead by Paul Ireland were a brave crew with Colin Smith, Steve Cornes, John Sheldon and Tom Corbett.  Parliament was under the control of James Garland, Dave Shergold, Andy Collyer, Ian Steventon, Charles Singleton and myself.

The briefing for the game was:

Welshpool.  Colin to hold back a tide of Scots who were coming to steal the Royalist baggage and head towards the main battle and support Parliament.  At the Castle the Royalist had a force who were watching the Roundheads who had recently taken it.  The main two armies were left to face  each other with the Royalist tasked to beat the smaller Parliament army before the Scots arrived!

The game well the Royalist in Welshpool did better than hoped for holding up the Scots for most of the day but in the end had to fall back on the Town of Montgomery.  At the Castle the Royalist commander just went ahead and stormed it and even got in but then the Scots started to appear and he was soon fighting a slow withdraw back to the main army.  On the main field the Royalists had made a determined effort to beat the Roundheads but in the end was losing their left wing and with the arrival of the Roundhead cavalry at last it was not to good!  So it was all a very enjoyable day and everyone played in the sprit of the day.  Many thanks for the speedy clear up at the end by all.  We will have to be thinking about next year!
