We've had sneak previews of the scenery for John Geary's Big Idea this year but nothing could have prepared us for the full extent of the game he produced for Partizan.

With a huge castle and a massive temple, the Japanese scenario covered over 8 tables in an interesting U-shape and involved not just one, but two rulesets being played simultaneously.   Lion Rampant rules were in play for the big assault, and Test of Honour for the side-skirmish.

The table gained a lot of interest from new and seasoned wargamers alike,  There were the expected vignettes around the table, along with six Pokemon samurai (gotta catch 'em all) which, considering the audience, were bound to attract a lot of attention.

In the end a win in the Best Demonstration Game category was duly (and rightfully) awarded.

This was a team effort, with a number of members providing and painting figures, and helping out on the day.  Special mention goes to John himself as the mastermind and main creator of the project, and to Paul Titley and Greg King for artistic, modelling and deep wargaming experience.

Interested in getting into Warhammer: The Old World?
On 27th September, the Shrewsbury Wargames Society Old World players are hosting a 750-point Battle March Game Day—the perfect entry point for new players! The day is free for members, £10 for non-members.
There are plenty of spaces available, and if you’re new to the game, I’ll make sure you’re paired with someone who is happy to teach you the ropes and help you learn as you play.
Check out the rules using the link below, and don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions. I’m hoping to grow the SWS Old World community, and we’d love to have you join us!

Announcement to All Members !
Here at last – the SWS Boardgaming Initiative goes live.
Purpose: to promote to all members and play military / strategy boardgames at our glorious clubhouse within Pimley Manor, Shrewsbury.
First off, we need to know which boardgames are already owned by members that they would like to play and, of course when. We’re compiling a database on the website pages that you can contribute to here – https://forms.gle/fQFwFRMqZUMQGQGS8
Please complete the questionnaire so we can get rolling. This form will remain in place so becoming a living document that grows and evolves over time
We’re placing all the information in the Boardgames section found in the SWS website Members Area. This will give us a sustainable, easily accessed central point to discuss and arrange games, together with a directory of game rulesets, player aids etc for you to download.
See you at the tables!

No comments on “Become a SWS Keyholder”

SWS has a group of about 20 keyholders and you might like to join us.  Keyholders are those people who open and close the club after every meeting, making sure that things are closed down properly and tidied away.  By having a key they have 24/7 access to the club - some have been known to be gaming at 2am (those crazy 40k-ers).

Being a keyholder means committing to a lightly more responsible level of membership - being a keyholder means you have to do about 5 duties a year (dependent on numbers) opening and closing the club on clubnights.  After that you are free to open and close the club when you like.

Here is the list of keyholder duties (you will need to sign in to the website).

The link to the signup form is on the website.  Paid-up members only I'm afraid, so you will need to sign in to the website and look in the Members' menu.
