Another success at Alumwell in Wolverhamton where SWS brought home TWO trophies - Best Terrain and Best Display Game.  Our huge thanks are extended to WMMS for organising the event - it was another fantastic day.

The medieval castle defence game was majestic.  It represents a lot of work over a number of years by a number of our members, with recent figures being painted well into the night in the run-up to the event.  It's a relief that our members are willing to put in the effort to make such a spectacle come alive.

As usual, there were "Easter eggs" all over the place, not necessarily related to the battle but delightful to find.  The narrative of the battle continued throughout the day as columns of troops and the supply chain marched up to the castle walls to wreak havoc on the defenders.  Once a breach was made in the wall, they had the opportunity to flood in.

So many people were involved in this club team effort that I'm sure to miss someone out, so apologies for that.  From James Garland's stunning castle creation, Keith Underhill and Chris Campion making the majestic scenery and loaning figures and the mastermind Tym Corbett's beautiful figures and organisation of the day and so many club members coming along to give their time and energy to the tableau, we are blessed with such a dedicated membership.

Our other game was "Orke's Drift" (I can't remember the official title) which Tom and 40k friends put on as our second display game at Alumwell. Tom arranged this game at very short notice due to unforeseen circumstances, and it was a blast. Loads of people stopped by to listen to the guys talk about the game and the 40k universe. Many went away having learned new terms and words that aren't in any 20th century dictionaries, having been regaled in the 40k lore and the history of this particular game itself, which has been a part of 40k history since 1998. What you can't tell from the pictures is the team effort that went into putting this game on.

2024 SWS Alumwell

After Tom's clarion call for figures, within two weeks he had amassed armies to fight this game from club members both new and old. Many will recognise their own figures but members I know had fighters in this game include Katy Bataille, Alyn Jones, Thomas Miles Corbett. Matt Pendle, Matthew McManus. and Luke Wraith who all loaned their beatifully-p[ainted figures to the cause. I spied scenery from the hands of Andrew Campbell-Curtis that looks like it's been parachuted in to fill a gap in the wall, adding some welcome toxic waste to Chris Kalinowski's kindly-loaned Rorke's Drift scenery and mealbags. If you want to be part of this fantastic club, get in touch or complete your details at https://tinyurl.com/SWSmembership, and come to see us at https://what3words.com/having.added.change on a Monday or a Friday to check that we're the club for you.
